Forget inefficient and inconvenient cartridge filters! Not every filter can rid you of the dirt in your hot tub.
When buying a hot tub, many people decide mainly on price. No wonder – the range of cheap models is wide and at first glance they look the same as the more expensive ones. However, it is often with cheap hot tubs that the famous “we’re not rich enough to buy cheap stuff” applies. And the reason? One of the biggest problems with these hot tubs is the poor quality filtration system.
Filtration is the key element that keeps the water clean, clear and hygienic. However, many cheaper models use unsuitable filters – either made of poor quality fabric or (even worse) plain filter paper. Such materials cannot effectively trap dirt, oil or micro-organisms. The result? The water becomes cloudy, discoloured and, after a short time, an unpleasant smell appears.
Bad filters have other consequences. Dirt can build up on the walls of the hot tub, in the pipes or nozzles, which shortens the life of the equipment and increases the cleaning and chemistry requirements. Most importantly, the comfort and health of the users deteriorates.
It has the shape of a cylinder, the lower part of which is equipped with a replaceable thread or just a hole depending on the type of filtration of the whirlpool. The lower third of the length has a solid wall all around, the upper two thirds and the lid are perforated. A perforated suction nozzle is located in the centre of the cylinder, the height of which extends to two-thirds of the cylinder. The lower part of the nozzle has a solid solid wall and defines the space for the strainer. At this level, there is also a strainer grid around the entire perimeter of the filter, which separates the strainer compartment from the filter medium.
Thanks to the perforated design of the filter and the central suction nozzle, the water is sucked by the whirlpool pump in all directions through the microfiltration medium. This filter medium filters out impurities from 3 microns which is many times more than conventional cartridge filters. Due to their robustness, the service life is estimated to be many years, only the multi-functional microfiltration media needs to be changed, approximately every 12 months.

The filter lifetime is virtually unlimited, but to see a realistic example of the cost and savings, let’s calculate the median lifetime of our hot tubs, which is 15 years.
1. Special filter for hot tub:
The price of the filter is 99€ – lifetime 15 years or more
The price of the filter medium is 29€ – lifetime 1 year
Cost for 15 years: 99€ + (29€ x 15) = 534€
2. The cost of the filter is 49€ – lifetime 1 year
Cost for 15 years: 49€ x 15 = 735€
This shows that the saving over a 15 year period when using filters is 201€ and therefore 13,40€/year per filter. If you have 2 filters in your hot tub this is a saving of approx. 27€ per year.
However, this is only the primary saving on the purchase of filters. Secondarily, however, you will save on water consumption when cleaning the filters and you will also reduce the consumption of chemicals for cleaning the regular filters and for water treatment in the hot tub. The biggest benefit, however, is the immense comfort. No more cleaning the filters with a stream of water, not to mention if you’ve been doing it outside in the winter. You simply remove the hot tub filter, open it up and take out the beads to put in the washing machine.
